Oklahoma’s largest casino, WinStar World Casino and Resort, is preparing for the exciting 2018 River Poker Series which will include more than ten tournaments, starting Wednesday, August 22. With a guaranteed prize pool of $2 million, the $2,500 Main Event will certainly be the highlight of the festival.
Starting September 1 and running through September 4, the Main Event will attract hundreds of professional poker players and enthusiasts to the WinStar World Casino and Resort, located in Thackerville, Oklahoma. Casino management seems determined to host the annual festival despite the incident Saturday evening when the structure of the entrance to the resort’s concert venue was knocked down by a heavy storm. According to a WinStar World Casino statement, 14 people were injured and hospitalized immediately, while the Backstreet Boys and 98 Degrees concert was cancelled.
Despite the unfortunate incident, however, the casino resort, which is the largest casino in the United States by gaming floor space, remains fully operational. On Wednesday, it welcomes its richest poker festival of the year, the 2018 River Poker Series. Satellites for the Main Event had already started on August 12. Entrants who pay the $550 buy-in have the chance to win the No-Limit Hold’em events and get a seat at the $2,500 River Main Event on September 1.
Players during the two starting flights on September 1 and 2 will launch stacks of 25,000 in chips, while blinds will increase every 40 minutes. Registration will be open for the first 9 levels, while re-entry will be unlimited. On Day 2 and 3, the levels will be 60 minutes and play will continue until a champion is determined on the third, final day. The guaranteed prize pool may be exceeded depending on the number of entries and the final 12 percent of the field will be awarded cash prizes.
2018 River Poker Series Features 10 Side Events
Along with the deep-stacked Main Event, the upcoming 2018 River Poker Series at WinStar World Casino and Resort will feature ten exciting side events, starting with the $340 NLH Turbo Bounty on Wednesday. There are also three $230 buy-in Super Turbo events, featuring $100 bounties. Starting stacks will be 7,000 in chips while levels will be only 15 minutes.
The second tournament of the series will also draw in a large entry field with its guaranteed prize pool of $500,000. The $450 NLH Monster Stack kicks off Thursday and will run through Sunday with 30-minute levels and 25,000 in starting chips. There will also be a two-day Deep Stack event with a $560 buy-in, as well as a $1,000 Turbo tournament where players can get $500 bounties.
