After failing to secure a seventh World Series of Poker gold bracelet on Monday, Daniel Negreanu did not feel discouraged even for a minute and threw himself eagerly in the next challenge. The biggest live poker tournament winner of all time joined the star-studded list of instructors at the online educational platform MasterClass to teach people poker tactics.
On Tuesday, the Canadian poker pro announced the news on social media, explaining that in his master class, launching June 19, he would be sharing his knowledge in poker in a deeper, more comprehensible way than ever before. Unlike some accomplished players, Negreanu has always offered his commentary and advice through various platforms and with the MasterClass website, he says he will be delving deeper into the strategy, theory, maths and practice of professional poker. The lessons will be available to anyone who is looking to perfect their skills and knowledge of the game.
Interestingly, the online course is designed to assist amateurs but it is not aimed at beginners, at all. In fact, in order to fully take advantage of the lessons, students need to have a good understanding of the game and its concepts. The course Negreanu will be teaching includes 34 video lessons where he will provide detailed hand reviews, as well as analysis of body language and the art of bluffing. There is also a workbook with a full terminology guide, lesson recaps, and assignments. In addition, Daniel Negreanu will answer questions from the students and explain all the fundamentals of poker – skills, theory and math, betting tactics, and hand ranges.
This may sound too good to be true to most poker enthusiasts but, of course, the lessons from one of the best poker players in the world do not come for free. The website is a commercial educational platform, which means students pay for the courses they are interested in. But it seems that it is actually worth it as the classes are extremely exclusive and feature only the best professionals from any given field. While Canada’s legendary Daniel Negreanu teaches poker, Armin Van Buuren teaches about everything about dance music, while Martin Scorsese is a filmmaking instructor. Other notable instructors include Garry Kasparov, Samuel L. Jackson, Spike Lee, Herbie Hancock, Mark Jacobs, Christina Aguilera, and Serena Williams.
Eying the Gold at WSOP
Outside the classroom, Daniel Negreanu remains the most financially successful poker player in the world with live tournament winnings of almost $40 million. But at this stage of his career, the financial success comes second to the prestige of certain tournaments. This year, he is showing his remarkable skills at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas, but it seems he just falls short in the final hands, being unable to capture another gold bracelet. In fact, his last notable WSOP win was back in 2013 when he took down the European and the Asia-Pacific championships.
Last year, the six-time bracelet winner decided he needed to update his strategies and re-evaluate the concepts and theories he had always known. Staying away from big events for several months, he himself took lessons and practiced daily new tactics to improve his play. In the months prior his return at 2018 WSOP, he managed to collect sizable amounts of cash, including more than $520,000 for finishing fourth in the Super High Roller at PokerStars Caribbean Adventure in January. Then, he banked $264,000 for his third position at Las Vegas’ US Poker Open Main Event in February.
Just a couple of weeks ago, Negreanu reached the final table at the 2018 Super High Roller Bowl in Las Vegas. He was defeated by Justin Bonomo for the title but for his remarkable performance and runner-up position, he received $3 million. On Monday, he tried to earn the seventh WSOP bracelet in his career taking part in the $1,500 Eight Game Mix but finished third, banking $59,788.
