Conrad Resort in the beautiful coastal city Punta del Este held one of the most buzzed-about events in poker’s recent history, and more precisely partypoker’s Latin American Poker Championships. The event that kicked off on 24th March created a lot of crazy action and over $2 million has been given away in prize money. As always, the series culminated with the $1,100 Main Event. The long-anticipated Main Event is already on the books, but the heat from it is still smoldering.
Yesterday, partypoker crowned a new Main Event champion and that is Amauri Grutka from Brazil. The player defeated a stacked field of 1,137 to be awarded the lion’s share of the prize pool. The player collected $200,000 for his showing. In fact, Grutka has improved his results with remarkable consistency and determination. His recent award far exceeds his previous total live earnings, which currently amounts to $354,974. The player is a rising star in the world of poker.
Amauri Grutka Conquers New Poker Peak
By the time late registration closed, 1,137 entries were processed and a guarantee-busting $1,102,890 prize pool was created. The prestigious event attracted a number of poker notables, who tried their luck in a game of poker. Only 14 players managed to work their way to Day 4 of the event. The Canadian poker superstar Kristen Bicknell made a furor with her appearance on the poker arena. She was really close to entering the final table of the event, but she did not get any help from the board and she exited in 10th place for $9,000.
Only 8 players managed to reach the official final table. At that time, Grutka had a slight chip advantage over his eventual heads-up opponent Yi Lin from China. The first to leave the official final table was Francisco Garcia from Uruguay. Lucas Scafini’s elimination in 7th place gave the start of an elimination streak of three more Brazilian poker players. The three-handed battle saw Federico Dania from Argentina, Yi Lin and Amauri Grutka fiercely struggling for the right to enter the epic heads-up battle.
Eventually, Dania started to run out of steam and he was eliminated in 3rd place for an $88,290 payday. To the surprise of many spectators, the two-handed battle between Grutka and Lin finished in a timely manner. Locked in an all-in confrontation, Grutka tabled [Qh][Qc] to fight with Lin’s [As][Ks]. The [Qs][10s][2d] landed on the board and that was enough for Grutka to nail down the top spot. The runner-up finisher grounded his way to a staggering money prize of $130,000.
