The fourth annual Global Poker Index American Poker Awards, presented by PokerStars is the most buzzed-about topic among the poker fans. The event will be held on 22nd February at 7 pm at the Andaz West Hollywood in Los Angeles. Accomplished poker players and industry-involved notables are honored at the American Poker Awards.
Some of the most famed and recognizable faces populating the poker arena are to chase more poker glory. But when it comes to such poker luminaries, it would be more accurate to say that the poker glory will chase them once again.
The Global Poker Index has already revealed the names of the 54 nominees, who will participate in the race. This year the event features a record of 20 categories, which means that a record 20 trophies will be awarded. In addition to that, the sponsors of the event have decided to change the host venue from SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills to Andaz West Hollywood.
While the nominees are preparing their speeches and packing their suitcases, the team from Casino Reports had a brief look at the list of nominees. Checking the names of all the nominees, we could not help but notice that the Canadian poker legend Daniel Negreanu is among the nominees.
Video Blogger, Poker’s Biggest Influencer or Both
The Canadian poker guru Daniel Negreanu is nominated in two categories, including Poker’s Biggest Influencer and Video Blogger. In Poker’s Biggest Influencer category, the player will compete with Cary Katz, Doug Polk and Matt Savage for the award. Needless to say, all nominees in this category have a strong presence on the poker scene and they all deserve the award.
Quite unsurprisingly, the light-hearted Negreanu found himself nominated in the Video Blogger category. The Canadian phenomenon is also known as the most influential poker pro in social media. The other nominees included in the same category are Joe Ingram, Andrew Neeme and Doug Polk. The player is not afraid to discuss some of the most delicate issues related to poker. Earlier this year, the player released a video blog, discussing the controversial seating scripts used by many cardrooms. In 2017, Negreanu and Phil Hellmuth entered in a Twitter spat about the skills of young players.
A Twitter spat between Polk and Negreanu ensued this weekend. The American poker player called Negreanu “an embarrassment to players and the game of poker”. The comments came during a two-hour conversation with podcaster Joe Ingram. It is interesting to mention that Negreanu is one of the biggest poker ambassadors. The player has over $36 million in total live earnings and he tops the all-time money list for yet another year.
