Canadian gambling and entertainment operator Gateway Casinos and Entertainment presented its plan for the construction of a new casino at the Delta Town and Country Inn site. The new gambling venue is estimated to amount to $70 million. Casino officials will reveal more details on the project and announce a public consultation period with the idea to gather feedback from the public.
On 28th November, Gateway’s officials will present a complete draft project on a proposed Ladner casino. The Canadian conglomerate is planning to invest millions in a casino facility at the Delta Town and Country Inn site. According to the project, Gateway is looking to develop a gambling venue, that will include, among other things, 600 slots and 24 gaming tables.
As for the dimension of the proposed new Ladner casino, it can be best described as a medium-sized project. The new project is to feature less slot machines than the River Rock Casino Resort and Starlight Casino, but more compared to some smaller gambling venues like Chances or Elements. According to industry insiders, the size of the casino perfectly mirrors the needs of the city and its surroundings.
The casino operator intends to focus also on non-gambling activities in order to capitalize on the opportunity to attract both gambling and non-gambling tourists. The new gaming facility is also to provide its guests with a classy five-storey hotel that counts with 116 rooms. Apart from that, the guests will be able to enjoy first-class restaurants and bars. All the amenities included in the project are to feature Gateway’s footprint. The project corresponds to Gateway’s strategy to become Canada’s largest and most diversified casino operator.
Economic Benefits to Win Public Approval
It is not a secret that the main spur for the city officials to allow the construction of a new casino is the broad economic benefits. Ladner casino is to help reduce the local unemployment rate and boost the average wage. Apart from that, the casino is to bring in a greater proportion of out-of-the-city tourists and additional wealth into the local economy. Some experts even consider that the construction of a casino will be a major stimulus for tourism development.
The casino operator has already submitted its application to the city. City Mayor Lois Jackson announced that the project will be moved forward only after the casino operator receives public approval. City officials announced a public consultation period to hear people’s stance on the matter. Anyone, who would like to receive more information or to express an opinion regarding Gateway’s casino project, can attend one of the two public information session to kick off tomorrow at 11 am and 6 pm local time, respectively. Each session will last around 2 hours and will provide detail-oriented information related to Ladner casino project.
