In an announcement from this week, the Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority revealed that it has installed electronic vehicle charging stations at three casinos. Now, guests of Northern Lights Casino in Prince Albert, Gold Eagle Casino in North Battleford and Painted Hand Casino in Yorkton have access to Level 3 fast charging and Level 2 EV stations.
It should be mentioned that SIGA runs a total of seven casinos and the iGaming platform, PlayNow, in Saskatchewan. Its four other gaming establishments in the province are the Dakota Dunes Resort & Casino on near Saskatoon, the Living Sky Casino in Swift Current, the Bear Claw Casino near Carlyle and the Gold Horse Casino in Lloydminster.
Running Environmentally Friendly Manner
In the press release, SIGA’s Director of Operations, Daniel Morin commented that it was important for the gaming authority to operate in an environmentally sustainable manner, along with incorporating such plans into its operational procedures in the future. He also shared that it was important to stay true to its guiding principle of Witaskêwin, which means living together on the land.
Guests of the recently equipped casinos can now utilize the ChargePoint Level 3 charging station to power up their green cards. It provides up to 125 kilowatts of electric charging capacity, which is equal to around 200 kilometres of range with a 30-minute charge time. Installations were possible thanks to funding from the SaskPower Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program and Natural Resources Canada.
A few weeks ago, SIGA’s Operations Department got its approval for Phase 1 funding from SaskPower and National Resources Canada to install EV charging stations at three casinos. This was possible via SaskPower’s Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program. Meanwhile, Phase 2 will allow for the installation of such stations at the regulator’s other casinos.
The SaskPower Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program delivers funding for eligible businesses or organizations for the building of up to 20 fast charging stations across the province. With help from Natural Resources Canada, the program was intended to address gaps in the charging infrastructure along well-traveled corridors in the province.

Just last week, SIGA inked a lucrative partnership with Jackpot Digital, which is a leading provider of electronic table games. Via the deal, the supplier will install its cutting-edge Jackpot Blitz® dealerless poker electronic table games with the regulator. Its Dakota Dunes and Gold Horse Casino locations will be the first ones to adopt the new technology.
Its collaboration with the B.C. provider comes on the back of an eventful 2023. Last month, President and CEO of SIGA, Zane Hansen reflected on last year, stating the 12 months were solid for the authority. He explained it was a year of recovery getting business back on its feet, and that they saw its gambling market perform relatively well in that time.
