Initial projections were that New York would reach astonishing numbers in sports betting handle during Super Bowl LVII, however, the state failed to deliver. According to official data from the New York State Gaming Commission, local sports bettors placed just over US$100 million in online and in-person wagers on the NFL championship game last Sunday.
New York’s mobile sports betting market opened on January 8, 2022, and the state quickly transformed into the top regulated jurisdiction for online sports wagers in the U.S. This led experts to believe that the largest sporting event on the continent will bring in massive numbers in handle and there were projections of US$150 million in volume, however, it failed to do so.
Numbers by Sportsbook
For the Super Bowl weekend, New York’s nine online sportsbooks handled a total of US$99.1 million in digital wagers, which translated to only US$1.1 million in gross gaming revenue and US$565,000 in tax revenue.
