New York continues to lead mobile sports betting markets in the U.S. even during Super Bowl LVII. According to geolocation provider, GeoComply, the Empire State recorded more than 100 million geolocations checks across the country during the weekend, with over 13.9 million of the pings being clocked in New York on Saturday and Sunday.
Founded back in 2011, GeoComply is a supplier of fraud prevention and cybersecurity solutions that detect location fraud and help verify a user’s true digital identity. The company is also utilized in the Empire Stateās mobile sports betting market, which debuted back in January 2022, and has quickly become one of the leading ones in the country.
Breaking Down Numbers
Co-Founder and CEO of the geolocation firm, Anna Sainsbury shared that Super Bowl LVII was a record-breaking event and the interest in it among Americans has never been higher. On top of recording the highest volume of geolocation checks during the weekend, New York also had the second most unique accounts created with 851,000, being only outperformed by Ohio.
GeoComply reported that across 24 U.S. jurisdictions, there was a 25% increase in Super Bowl wagering geolocation checks over last year. Meanwhile, there was also a 32% increase in accounts or 7.4 million more, who generated over 100 million checks. Out of the total checks, New York led the way with the most recorded with 13.9 million.
New York was ahead of Ohio with 12.6 million checks and Pennsylvania with 11.8 million, but the latterās major volume can be explained by the fact that The Philadelphia Eagles represent it. Meanwhile, Kansas which is the home of the other participant in the final, Kansas City Chief, and launched its market last fall, recorded only 2.2 million in geolocation checks.
As the state with the largest volume of geolocation checks, it is quite evident that the Empire State has experienced tons of betting activity during the Super Bowl weekend. Currently, the numbers are not released, but the New York State Gaming Commission vowed to release official numbers on the Super Bowl wagering within the next few days.
A few weeks ago, Eric Ramsey, who is a leading market analyst for PlayNY gave his betting projections for the stateās wagering activity on the Super Bowl. He predicts that the Empire State will make way only for Nevada with approximately US$176.2 in handle. Meanwhile, NYS was projected to pile US$151.5 million, ahead of New Jersey with US$115.5 million.
Record-Setting January
The immense volume of online sports wagering from the Super Bowl comes on the back of a record-breaking January 2023. Previously the NYSGC, reported that for the month, the state handled US$1.71 billion in online wagers. Thus, making it the highest record betting handle for the state, since the launch of the mobile sports betting market last year.
