Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation is once again putting effort into evolving its lottery options across Ontario. This week, the OLG stated that it is taking the first steps towards launching approximately 1,400 self-serve lottery terminals in select lottery retail locations across the province. Thus, providing more convenience to local lottery players.
The Crown corporation is a state-run agency that is responsible for offering gambling and lottery in a fun but safe way to Ontarians. It conducts and manages brick-and-mortar casinos, lottery products, online gaming, as well as bingo and electronic gaming services at Charitable Gaming Centres. And since its inception, it has delivered more than CA$55 billion to the local economy.
Over 1,400 New Terminals to be Launched
In a press release, OLG’s President and CEO, Duncan Hannay, shared that the Crown agency will rely on innovative self-serve technology. Through this, it will be able to provide safe, secure, and convenient access to lottery games. In his words, the Crown is always looking to expand its lottery options, with the purpose of entertaining customers and creating value for the province.
As a part of its new initiative, the OLG will now engage retail partners and other industry stakeholders to proactively build support and answer questions about the new terminals. After receiving approvals from the government, the OLG plans to start launching the terminals in the second half of 2023. Meanwhile, IGT has agreed to provide the design and build for the new machines.
Jay Gendron, IGT Chief Operating Officer Global Lottery indicated that the company is looking forward to helping the OLG in improving lottery options in the province. He explained that the company’s self-serve terminals have been built on years of experience and by utilizing some of the most cutting-edge self-service solutions. The new ones in Ontario will come with responsible gambling functionality and AODA-compliant accessibility features.
Peter Bethlenfalvy, Minister of Finance, stated that the local government is committed to making sure that the provincial gaming market meets the needs of both consumers and retailers. He believes that with the introduction of the new 1,400 terminals, the OLG will be making its lottery products more accessible while maintaining its commitment to social responsibility.

In order to keep its many players protected, in September, the OLG also introduced an improved and rebranded self-exclusion program named “My PlayBreak”. The program comes with enhanced tools for players to utilize when they want to limit their game time. Users can now select different length pauses or enroll in an optional check-in calls service from experts of the Responsible Gambling Council.
In addition to that, the Crown agency is always looking to add more excitement to people’s lives. This month, it also presented a travelling version of the Toronto International Film Festival, which will be coming to Campbellford, North Bay, and Windsor. TIFF on Tour will screen local film productions and tickets for the shows will be completely free.
