Russia is to host the unique partypoker Live Millions festival, which by all means, will remain in the country’s history as the largest poker contest, offering an astonishing prize pool of $9 million in total and a great variety of poker events, in which the players will have the opportunity to demonstrate their skills and boost their bankrolls.
partypoker is among the most reputable online poker card rooms, which attracts players from around the world to take a shot. Being launched more than a decade ago, the card room reached a great customer base. Currently, partypoker is heading to the iconic Russian city, Sochi to establish a good reputation on the lucrative Russian market.
This is the operator’s second trip to Russia. Earlier this year, and more precisely from 23rd to 27th March, partypoker arrived in Sochi to offer Russian poker enthusiasts a $1 million guaranteed tournament. This was partypoker’s debut on the Russian gambling scene.
Due to the great interest in the previous poker tournament, the operator decided to launch another live event, targeting to become Russian’s first choice of a poker operator. For that purpose, the operator decided to break any records and offer a sturdy prize pool of $9 million in total. The partypoker Live Millions Festival is set to kick off online on 27th August and its first Day 1 live is scheduled to be held on 9th September.
This will be the largest prize pool in Russia’s poker history. The operator explained that more than half of the money, and more particularly $5 million, will be the Main Event’s guaranteed prize pool and the champion will pocket no less than $1 million.
The organizers of the event explained that the only setback might be the high entry fee, pointing out to PokerStars as an example. PokerStars also visited Sochi in May, but the Main Event did not reap much success, having in mind that it drew only 387 players.
Nevertheless, partypoker is not the only operator, which is eyeing the emerging Russian market. This indicates the importance of the Russian’s market for the further development of the gambling industry. As a matter of fact, in 2009 the current President of Russia Vladimir Putin banned gambling in the country and the operators were not allowed to offer live poker to the Russian nationals.
However, the government saw a great opportunity to boost its economy by establishing an attractive and entertaining centre with the coming of 2014 Winter Olympics. To be even more enticing to the foreign visitors, Russian officials decided to allow the development of a gambling zone in Sochi, which opens a great potential for Russia to become a big poker market.
