Woodbine Entertainment, which is the horse racing leader of Ontario, announced that the company will be making some adjustments to its weekend live racing schedule. The changes will be regarding the company’s Woodbine Racetrack’s and the upcoming racing cards at the horse racing oval and their news post times on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
The horse racing leader’s property – Woodbine Racetrack is based in Etobicoke, and it is a home of many and exciting Thoroughbred races throughout its live season. The horse racing oval opened its doors in 1956 and it has a one-mile dirt track, also the property is the home of The Queen’s Plate, which is one of the oldest and most prestigious racing events on the continent.
Slight Adjustments
On November 2, 2021, Woodbine Entertainment informed that it has made some slight adjustments to its racing schedule of the track. Post times for Thursday, November 4, and Saturday, November 6 have been moved back from their initial time of 12:55 p.m. to 1:11 p.m. However, the company explains that this change only applies to this week’s schedule.
The start of Friday, November 5 race card racing events will also be amended, according to the company. Now, events for the day will be starting at 4:10 p.m. and not the previously announced 4:50 p.m. This change also applies only to this week’s calendar. Tragic News
This week, the horse racing leader has also announced that Hall of Fame jockey Hugo Dittfach has unfortunately passed away at the age of 85 years old. Mr. Dittfach who was born in 1936 in Ostrisland, Germany, has more than an impressive resume in the horse racing sector as he had won over 4,000 races as a jockey, add in 1983 was inducted into the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame.
CEO of the company Jim Lawson shared a few words on the tragic news. Mr. Lawson considers himself lucky for the opportunity to have worked and shared many memories with Mr. Dittfach. In his words, the legendary jockey was a hard-working and honest man, that always gave his best while riding. Mr. Lawson thanked him for his enormous contribution to the sport and said that he will be missed by everyone.
The 162nd Queen’s Plate
In the summer, Woodbine Racetrack hosted the 162nd installment of The CA$1-million Queen’s Plate race. This year’s event was surprisingly won by the debuting Safe Conduct who managed to overcome the fierce competition. Also, this summer the event generated CA$3.5 million in betting volume, and overall, the track recorded a wagering volume of CA$16.1 million for the weekend, which is 11% higher than last year’s results.
Planning for Next Summer
This summer the company has also hosted the Mohawk Million event for Standardbreds at its other Ontario property – Woodbine Mohawk Park. The CEO of the leader is quite satisfied with the results of the event, which was only its second running. He also revealed the plans to have the competition again next summer, so horsepeople and owners can prepare in time.
