It was a thrilling weekend of live horse racing at Milton’s Woodbine Mohawk Park as fans had the opportunity to watch this year’s Mohawk Million race card. Venerable who was the 4-5 favorite hit the ground running and emerged victorious with a time of 1:54 2/5 at the oval bringing the title for driver David Miller.
The daughter of Walner has now remained undefeated in her eight career starts and managed to grow her seasonal winnings to a seven number figure. The event hosted at Woodbine Entertainment’s horse racing track in Campbellville had a field of 10 fillies and the winner faced major competition from the crowd’s favorites such as King of The North and Selfie Queen.
Eventful Saturday
The Saturday event saw Venerable emerge victorious at the Woodbine Mohawk Park with a winning time of 1:54 2/5. The filly started from post nine, and the trainer did not push her from the very beginning but rather waited for the perfect opening and took advantage of it. She is owned by David McDuffee, Melvin Hartman, Paul Bordogna and Steven Arnold who paid CA$210,000 at last year’s Lexington Selected sale for the filly.
Duly Resolved came at second place in the thrilling race, and this was his ninth first or second finish in his nine career starts for trainer John Bax. Valentina Blu with rider Andrew McCarthy managed to climb to third place. The Mighty hill and James MacDonald claimed fourth place, and the crowd’s favorite King of the North came fifth.
National Caretaker Appreciation Day
Last week, Woodbine Entertainment took part in the National Caretaker Appreciation Day. The event celebrates the industry’s behind-the curtains heroes that take care and provide support to the equine athletes and it was hosted on September 23, 2021. The company also recognized Joanne Colville and Emma Christoforou for their efforts in the hosting of the festivities at Woodbine Mohawk Part on Thursday.
The horse racing leader has also provided a list of individuals and groups that will be awarded sponsorships, gifts, and other contributions for National Caretaker Appreciation Day. All of the awarded caretakers have also received a special gift from Adriano Sorella and Jimmy Freight. The full list of winners can be found on the company’s official website.
Record-Breaking Handle
Prior to the Mohawk Million and the caretaker’s event, Woodbine Entertainment revealed that the company has accumulated over CA$30 million betting activity at its Woodbine Mohawk Park and Woodbine Racetrack for the weekend of September 17, 18, and 19. Woodbine Racetrack recorded its highest-ever handle with CA$13,856,030.71. This has also broken another record for the Ricoh Woodbine Mile card which was an increase of 17.3% over last year’s edition.
New Staff Policy
Additionally, the horse racing leader has demonstrated its support for Ontario’s new proof of full vaccination protocols. Starting from September 22, the company’s staff members must present immunization proof to enter the corporation’s Ontario properties. However, if staff members are not yet vaccinated must then participate in the Enhanced Screening Program.
