Joe McKeehen is the new winner in the 2017 World Series of Poker $10,000 Limit Hold’em Championship. He defeated numerous competitors and laid his hands on his second WSOP gold bracelet this Wednesday.
His dynamic Day 3 of the tournament had its ups and downs since McKeehen has a very short stack and started near the bottom of the counts. As the day progressed, he was working hard to gain more leverage and managed to surpass most of his rivals for the bracelet. His final opponent was Jared Talarico from Houston, Texas, who so far has 5 cashes from previous WSOP tournaments, but no bracelets yet. He went home without one again, because Joe McKeehen dominated the three-handed play.
He started the third day of the tournament with as much as 100,000 chips and was on second-to-last position among the 15 players left at the table. He was saved by a couple of good hands he won right away and managed to come back to the surface. His competition was quite tough, however, since this is a tournament for $10,000 and only the best players take part in it. And yet he managed to move from 14th to the first place in a single day, which happened to be the last one.
The heads-up play with Jared Talarico began with McKeehen having a small lead over the Texas player. Talarico is well-known for his aggressive style of playing and he remained faithful to it in this duel as well. McKeehen had a 5:3 edge in chips at the beginning of it and as the game progressed Talarico was forced to push in his last chips.
Pennsylvania’s Joe McKeehen seized $311,817 by climbing the top position on the leaderboard, which marks his fourth-largest prize in his career as a World Series of Poker player. His biggest prize so far was the well-known first place he got at the 2015 Event #68: $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em MAIN EVENT – World Championship where he won the impressive $7,683,346 and defeated more than 6,400 competitors on his way to the top. The brand new prize adds up to his life earnings and amounts them to $10,116,337.
The first WSOP event he took part in was the 2012 Event #56: $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em at which he won $2,757 and finished 255th. Apart from the two bracelets he has in his trophy collection, he has two WSOP Circuit rings to go with them. His biggest Circuit earning came in 2012 on the Event #10A: No-Limit Hold’em Main Event. It was held at the Caesars in Atlantic City, New Jersey and he won $174,147. He has 15 cashes from Circuit and a total amount of $327,885 in cash.
