After a rather financially turbulent 12 months for the horse racing industry in Canada, the fan-favorite live races have finally returned this month. Sector leaders are looking for a way out of the financial difficulties, and one of the most prominent operators Woodbine Entertainment has informed of a brand-new partner for the upcoming Standardbred season at its Woodbine Mohawk Park track.
Similarly to many other business sectors, the unprecedented situation has not been easy on the horse racing industry too. Due to the lockdown restrictions races in Ontario have been put on hold depriving horsepeople of their positions and leaving the sport’s many fans with no entertainment. Thanks to a recent green light and lax of lockdown rules, the industry in the province finally renewed its operations.
Brand-New Partners
Most recently the horse racing regulator Woodbine Entertainment released a statement to the public regarding its new sponsorship partner Diamond Creek Farm for the Standardbred races at Woodbine Mohawk Park in Ontario. This deal will allow the latter to be present in the entirety of the upcoming season and all events at the horse racing track venue.
Ever since its founding in 2005 by Adam Bowden, Diamond Creek Farm has established itself in the horse racing industry as one of the most prominent and successful breeding organizations in live harness competitions. Initially, the company’s emphasis was set on producing regal bloodlines and providing the sector with top-notch stallions for sales rings and race tracks. Over the years the breeding stable has taken pride in making an impressive roster of horses.
The brand-new sponsor of the race track has previously announced the addition to its lineup of three-time Breeders Crown champion trotter Gimpanzee. The prominent Dan Patch Award-winning stallion won one of its Breeders Crown honors in Woodbine Mohawk Part in 2019. Bettors Wish is another prominent name that has also been added to the 2021 breeding season at the farm.
The prestigious roster of the breeding farm includes winners of the race track’s most prominent races such as the Pepsi North America Cup, Maple Leaf Trot, and Canadian Trotting Classic. Fans will immediately recognize famous names of the lineup starting from Always B Miki, Bettors Wish, Captain Crunch, Crazy Wow, Downbytheseaside, Father Patrick, Gimpanzee, Marseille, Southwind Frank, and Sweet Lou.
New March Events
After the rescheduling of its several Winter Series events, Woodbine Mohawk Park recently revealed that the month of March will be even more exciting. The harness racing leader has added several events to its March schedule. The first one of the new events being eyed to take place on March 25, followed by two others on March 26, and 27. The last one is set to be on Monday, March 29.
Single-Events Wagers
In light of the current discussion of introducing single-game betting offerings in Canada, Woodbine Entertainment and Ontario Racing have teamed up on behalf of the horse racing industry in the province. Both leaders voiced their support of the newly-proposed change in gaming rules but urged authorities to be cautious and implement protective measures in order to protect the live harness industry from potential harm.
