Lotto 6/49 is once again a topic of wide discussion as it changed the life of one of its players… twice. Andrew Burke of Calmar, Alberta managed to split the CA$5-million jackpot between his two Lotto 6/49 tickets and claim both halves of the Main prize. September 16 was a special date for the lottery enthusiast.
Every draw of the lottery draw-based game brings a moment of thrill for the players ready to learn more about the numbers drawn and the ways in which they could win big. Lotto 6/49 and Lotto MAX are the two most popular draw-based games available in Canada and they enjoy great success among players in all provinces. One of the latest winners has an interesting story to share.
Lotto 6/49
Mr. Burke hails from Calmar and he has been playing the lottery for years now. His dedication and persistence finally paid out about a month ago, when he managed to benefit from one of the regular Lotto 6/49 draws. Sometimes the universe gets in the way of things and some unexpected things could happen. Such as the double purchase he made upon buying his lottery ticket.
He had highlighted the needed six numbers for this draw, but he purchased two, instead of one ticket by accident. Nevertheless, he took both tickets home and waited patiently for the September 16 regular draw. The numbers in question were 6, 12, 23, 29, 44, and 46, and they were drawn.
Back then, Western Canada Lottery Corporation announced there were two tickets eligible for the prize of CA$5 million, and both of them were purchased in Alberta. However, the Crown corporation did not know that the tickets were in the possession of a single individual eager to bag their prize. Mr. Burke split the prize with himself and in an unexpected turn of events he was not eligible for a CA$2,5-million payout, but for a CA$5-million one.
Jackpot Bagged
Canada’s latest Lotto 6/49 millionaire shared that he had been playing the lottery for years but this is the first time he bags such a substantial prize. He would like to retire and take some time for himself and his wife, carefully investing the fortune bagged. Every lottery winner receives the same question linked to their future plans for spending the cash.
Mr. Burke would like to do some renovations on his house, while also restoring the vintage Land Rover in his possession. He would also like to visit his homelands and explore the UK once traveling abroad is safe once again. The CA$5 million will help for other various projects too. It should be pointed out that the retailer who sold the tickets is now eligible for a one-percent slice of the overall Main prize.
The winner purchased the two tickets at a gas station in Calmar, meaning that the location is now eligible for a CA$50,000 payout. Mr. Burke recalled that both the owner and the clerk were just as excited and baffled as he was upon scanning the tickets.
