Ontario Place is bracing for its thorough renovation that is going to bring new life to the area and it was confirmed that the public area is not going to feature a casino venue. Tourism Minister Michael Tibollo made an official announcement this Tuesday pointing out that more ideas for the future development of the open-air area of Toronto are sought.
We are on the verge of a whole new are for the emblematic location and it is only a matter of time before it shines bright with its offerings. Ontario Place is a beloved area in the waterfront area of Toronto, on the shores of Lake Ontario.
The location brings fond memories for millions of Canadians holding on to the images imprinted in their mind. The area is in need of redevelopment, in order to become the best possible version of itself for both locals and tourists making their way there. This week saw the official Government confirmation that a casino venue would not be part of the open-air park.
Casino Has No Place in Ontario Place
However, now it is time for more ideas to be introduced and the public has the chance to chime in with various proposals. Tuesday brought the anticipated public speech on the subject aiming to clarify details around Ontario Placeās future.
Minister Tibollo made it clear that the vision for this area is a family-friendly one that would be able to attract both local and international visitors. The ultimate goal for Ontario Place is to become Torontoās next landmark worth visiting for its entertainment potential and the diverse activities it offers.
The Call for Development seeks more ideas that could transform the area and bring it back to life, making Toronto an even more popular location. Entertainment, recreation, sports, hospitality, and retail offerings are considered appropriate in this case. It should be taken into account that the area would not welcome any residential buildings, making it exclusively entertainment area of the city.
Call for Development Greenlighted
KPMG and Colliers International seek to find the most appropriate offerings for larger projects within the borders of Ontario Place. Shortly after the official announcement of the Call for Development, Councilor Joe Cressy confirmed previous concerns that Ontarioās government has not had a thorough conversation with Toronto prior to issuing its request for Ontario Place redevelopment proposals.
Mr. Cressy pointed out that collaboration is crucial at this point of the project and going forward this would have to happen if all parties involved want to see a positive change in the waterfront area of Toronto. This has to happen in an active manner, as the government has to show interest in teaming up with the city, instead of acting on its own.
This served to show Torontoās invitation for Premier Doug Ford and his government that could see a fruitful partnership down the road. It could be recalled that the beginning of this week saw the official confirmation of no casino venue within Ontario Place. Torontonians deemed the placement of a gambling venue in an area projected to attract millions of Canadians and people from around the globe inappropriate earlier this year.
