The renowned World Series of Poker is coming to Toronto, Ontario. This week, Great Canadian Entertainment, one of the country’s premier land-based gaming operators, announced that in collaboration with GGPoker, its Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto will host the prestigious WSOP Circuit. The tournament will kick off on March 22, and run to April 1, 2024.
Located near Woodbine Racetrack, Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto is Canada’s newest and largest gambling resort. Its gaming space stretches over 328,000 square feet of land and has 4,800 slot machines, 175 live table games, VIP rooms, and sports betting kiosks. It offers a complete experience for all kinds of gambling fans.
First Time in Toronto
WSOP Circuit in Toronto will feature eight Circuit Ring events and will be highlighted by a total of CA$3.9 million in prize pools and a CA$2,000 Main Event, with a CA$2.1 million prize pool. There will also be a CA$3,500 High Roller event with over CA$850,000 in prizemoney. It will build on the momentum from the record-setting WSOP from last summer.
General Manager of the Toronto casino, Robert Katsavelos said the property is delighted to work with GGPoker to bring WSOP to the city for the first time. He described the event as a fitting milestone that would create further momentum for the recently launched 30-table poker room at the property and welcome poker players from all over North America.
Last year, GGPoker sent over 770 players to the Main Event of WSOP, and now it will be exclusively overseeing the online qualifying tournaments while also hosting Brand Ambassadors at WSOP Circuit in Toronto, including local poker star Daniel Negreanu. He commented that there is something special about competing in WSOP in his hometown.

Bracing for Grand Opening
Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto may have kicked off operations in the summer of 2023, however, the grand opening ceremony for the establishment will be held in May 2024. For the occasion, the operator has secured the services of three-time GRAMMY® Award winner Gwen Stefani and five-time CMA Male Vocalist of the Year and ACM Award winner Blake Shelton.
Gwen Stefani is set to take over the stage of the brand-new and 5,000-person The Theatre on Friday, May 3, 2024, while on the next day, the torch will be passed on to Blake Shelton. Members of Great Canadian Rewards will be able to get an early sample of the ground-breaking event by signing up for a complimentary membership that will award them exclusive benefits.
