This week, the Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority handed a cheque worth CA$25,000 to the Prince Albert Food Bank. It is now the largest donation ever made to the organization. Also, the hefty contribution comes as part of SIGAās Community Investment Food Security Strategy, which would see it donate CA$225,000 to organizations in the province.
SIGA is a not-for-profit agency established to create employment for First Nation members through its regulated casino operations in the province of Saskatchewan. It runs a total of seven gaming properties, which combined offer 2,346 slot machines, 25 live table games, and 78 electronic table games. They also offer some fine dining and live entertainment opportunities.
Donation Arrives at Key Time
Executive Director of the Prince Albert Food Bank, Kim Scruby shared that when he began work at the organization, it handed out 700 food hampers on average every month. But now the number has increased to 1,300. He added the timing of the donation could not have been better, as the organization faces inflation pressures and can operate thanks to community support.
It should be mentioned that SIGAās Northern Lights Casino has been an important part of the Prince Albert community for over 27 years now. The General Manager of the gaming establishment, Angela Isbister, commented that the gambling authority has noticed the increased demand in the city for food hampers and food programs.
Meanwhile, SIGAās President and CEO, Zane Hansen, remarked that the important message is the effort that the food bank makes for Prince Alberta and the region. He said the agency is pleased to be able to help and that it appreciates the work that the Northern Lights Casino and its team have done to help local communities and give back to the area.
In a year, PAFB delivers enough food to feed the entire city for three days in a row. Mr. Scruby claimed that SIGAās CA$25k donation is the largest donation made to the organization in its history. The donation comes at a tremendous time, as the organization needs a new roof and it would enable it to make repairs while also continuing to supply communities with food.
