Most recently, Unifor Local 444 which represents workers at Starlight Casino Point Edward, reported that staff have accepted a new collective agreement. According to the labour union, in a meeting from Monday, November 13, 2023, workers accepted the latest presented terms from the employer. They will now enjoy enhanced wages, benefits, and language improvements.
Located at 2000 Venetian Blvd, Point Edward, in southwest Ontario, the gaming property is operated by Gateway Casinos & Entertainment. It boasts a casino floor with over 400 slot machines, and 11 live table games complemented by My Club Rewards, allowing bettors to play their preferred game and earn points and rewards along the way.
Gambling Staff Agrees to New Deal
In a recent statement, Unifor Local 444, which represents a portion of the gambling staff at the Point Edward casino, revealed that unionized members had a meeting on Monday to vote on the new proposed contract. It was reported that 65.8% of the employees voted in favour of the deal. Workers will now enjoy better wages, benefits, and more.
In the Facebook post, the union commented that enhancements were made in most areas of the latest agreement, including salaries, benefits, and language improvements. Its statement further continued by noting that the newly signed deal will place its unionized members in line with pay and benefits with other Gateway Casinosā properties across the province.
Furthermore, the labour union also informed that along with staff at Starlight Casino Point Edward, workers from Gateway Casinos Sarnia have also made progress on a new collective agreement. The employer and the union reached a tentative deal on Saturday, November 11, 2023. However, it remains to be seen when the Sarnia members will review and discuss the arrangement.
Gateway is Expanding Operations
In September 2023, Gateway Casinos & Entertainment announced that it has launched its CA$50 million-plus overhaul of Gateway Casinos London in the Western Fair District in Ontario. Via the expansion, the London gaming amenity will boost its gaming floor from 70,000 to 84,000 square feet. With the initiative, the operator wants to make the destination a modern gambling hotspot.
The extension of the property will also feature a heated patio and a performance stage for local artists to perform. According to the company, the larger gaming floor will include 891 slot machines and 18 live gaming tables which will be sprinkled around a new centralized bar. Exterior will also be revamped to feature the āCascadesā brand.
Gateway has also recently bolstered services in Western Canada, as its Starlight Casino New Westminster in B.C. launched a brand-new poker room. The room features four tables with āno limit and ālimitā stakes at different levels, seven flat-screen TVs and an exclusive menu with a daily breakfast special. For the occasion, the company hosted a special charity poker tournament.
