This week, Ontario learned the name of the latest lottery-minted millionaire from Canada’s most populous province. The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation has awarded a jackpot worth CA$10.6 million from Lotto 6/49 to the 66-year-old Toronto woman, Xiaomin Han. Now, with the amazing prize, she plans on buying a new home.
Lotto 6/49 is a nationwide lottery game which provides an opportunity for some major cash prizes and is drawn twice per week. Once on Wednesday and once on Saturday. Since September last year, the game comes with an updated format, boasting a Classic jackpot and a Gold Ball one. The Classic is fixed at CA$5 million, while Gold Ball can reach CA$68 million.
Looking to Buy a New House
This week, the Crown Corporation handed Ms. Han her cheque worth CA$10,600,885.60. She won the amazing prize in the September 10, 2022 draw of Lotto 6/49 but she took her time and only cashed it out now. Ms. Han resides in North York and is a mother and grandmother who is now looking forward to spending the hefty windfall and enjoying its benefits.
She told OLG, that at the start she had trouble believing she actually won the jackpot, and she could not believe the number displayed before her. That is why she called her sister to verify the lotto win. But now after the news has settled, she shared she was calm but excited to be a winner of a prize of this magnitude.
Ms. Han has already started planning on what she will do with the prize money, with a new house and car being the first things. She also intends on traveling around Europe, as she never visited it before. She also shared she was an occasional lottery player but she always selected her own numbers for a draw.
Additionally, she said Lotto Max and Daily Grand were usually her preferred choices when it comes to playing the lottery. According to the OLG, the winning ticket for the September 10, 2022 draw was acquired at JJ Smoke Centre on Yonge Street in North York. The retailer will also gain a percentage from the lottery win.
Prior Lotto 6/49 Winners
Earlier in 2023, the OLG announced that three Ontarians have also landed a Lotto 6/49 jackpot worth CA$5,000,000. The winners were three but the winning tickets were two, hence both tickets claimed CA$2.5 million. The first winning ticket belongs to Debra and Kenneth Skitch from Bowmanville, while the second belonged to the 54-year-old Shane King from New Tecumseh.
In February, Canada learned the name of the first winner of a Gold Ball jackpot under the new format of Lotto 6/49. The name of the winner is Jean-Marc Poirier who got a CA$36 million windfall to his name, after his ticket was drawn as the sole winner in the October 29, 2022 draw. With the prize, he wants to travel around the world, get a new car, and spend more time on his hobbies.
