British Columbia Lottery Corporation has informed of another noteworthy lottery win recorded in the province. Most recently, a group of 24 Burnaby coworkers who play together have won an amazing jackpot worth CA$7 million in a Daily Grand draw. The reward will be now split evenly between them with each of the getting just over CA$291,000.
Daily Grand is a popular lottery game with a top prize of CA$1,000 a day for life. Draws for the game are held on Mondays and Thursdays every week. And in order to win, players must match all five numbers on the ticket, as well as the āgrandā number. According to the Crown corporation, the odds of winning the game are 1 in 13,348,188.
Opting for a One-Time Payment
The group of 24 coworkers is coordinated by Iuliana Petrovici and the two dozen colleagues won the Daily Grand top prize of CA$1,000 per day for life in the April 10 drawing. However, the group selected a CA$7 million lump-sum payment, meaning that each of them gets a CA$291,666.67 share. Ms. Petrovici shared that the group plays every lottery game together.
BCLCās official Facebook page live-streamed the event when the group was awarded the big cheque, and the Crownās COO Dan Beebe asked them if they ever thought they would win big. Ms. Petrovici replied that they only dreamed about it and never thought they would actually win a jackpot. According to BCLC, this win was the first Daily Grand jackpot won in B.C. this year.
Ms. Petrovici said during the ceremony that she checked the tickets late at night and even had to ask her husband to confirm them as she started shaking with excitement. She explained it was around 10:30 p.m. and it was late but she still contacted some members of the group to tell them the amazing news.
The BCLC informed that with the newfound money, some members of the winning group plan on buying new cars, going on their dream vacations, making some home renovations, and last but not least organizing a celebration lunch for their entire company. The life-changing ticket was bought at the Save-On-Foods on Marine Way near Byrne Road in Burnaby.
B.C. is the Home to Many Lotto Winners
This month, the Crown agency also revealed the identity of the lottery player from Vancouver Island who took home a CA$55-million jackpot in Lotto Max. The name of the lucky winner is William Scott Gurney who won the hefty prize in the February 28 draw. With the mega prize, he intends to help his family and purchase a property on the island.
The province of B.C. has become witness to many major Lotto Max winnings over the last few years. One of those belongs to West Kelowna resident, Jennifer Cole, who won an amazing CA$31 million from the nationwide game. Her win was recorded in the July 8, 2022 draw of the game, thanks to her Lotto Max subscription which provides her with tickets for each draw.
