On Sunday, April 16, 2023, Gateway Casinos and Entertainment, which is a leading land-based gaming operator in Canada, had to suspend gaming activities across its Ontario properties. According to the operator, this was due to a system-wide malfunction. The gaming amenities across the Ontario establishments will now remain closed until further notice.
As a leader of brick-and-mortar gambling, Gateway Casinos and Entertainment operates a total of 29 casinos across British Columbia, Ontario, and Alberta. In addition to exceptional gambling, it also offers premium dining amenities via its trademark Match Eatery & Public House, the Buffet, and others. However, in Ontario, the operator was recently struck by a technical issue.
Suspended Until Further Notice
On Sunday, April 16, 2023, the land-based operator announced on Facebook that all of its casinos in Ontario will be shutting down gaming activities until further notice. As of 1 p.m. on Sunday, all gaming floors were closed down. In its short statement, the company said it was due to a system-wide malfunction and advised patrons to follow social media channels for further updates.
One of the affected properties is Casino Rama which also suspends gambling options on its gaming floor. However, the establishment informed that its hotel and Weirs restaurant were not affected by the system failure and will remain open for guests. The gaming property will provide more details on the renewal of the casino floor once it has news on it.
As of 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 16, 2023, the company announced that all of its gaming venues have shut down operations temporarily. Besides Casino Rama in Orillia, this also includes Cascades Casino in Chatham, and nearby Gateway Casinos in Sarnia, London, Woodstock, and Clinton, as well as the Playtime Casino in Hanover. With no information of reopening yet.
The news about the closing down of gambling operations was not well received by all gamblers on social media. Some of them used Facebook as a way of venting their frustration with the company is even speculate about the origin of the system-wide failure. The company urged everyone to remain patient and apologized for the inconvenience.

Earlier this month, Gateway Casinos also announced the return of its My Club Rewards royalty program across casino properties in Ontario. Guests can now play and earn points at the operatorās properties and redeem them in exchange for premium rewards at Casino Rama. Some of the newly added experiences include hotel stays, spa retreats, cruises, concerts, and much more.
In addition to that, in April, the gambling leader also reported that its Atlas Steak + Fish restaurant will reopen at its Starlight Casino in the West Edmonton Mall in B.C. Reservations can now be made on Open Table, and Atlas will be working with a special schedule from Thursday to Sunday every week. It renewed work on Thursday, April 6, 2023.
