Once again, Woodbine Entertainment is prepared to celebrate International Women’s Day in a special way. This week, the horse racing operator informed that it will be hosting another all-women’s race for the occasion on Thursday, March 9, at Woodbine Mohawk Park. And again, the harness race will feature a lineup of ten female drivers competing for the prize.
Last year, Ontario’s leading horse racing operator also hosted an International Women’s Day race, which was captured by driver Natasha Day. For the special event, the group had a main prize of CA$18,000. And the event was hosted on March 7, 2022, with prominent host/racing analyst Dawn Lupul making her return as track announcer for the occasion.
Coming on March 9
As per the announcement from Woodbine Entertainment, International Women’s Day will feature a field of 10 female drivers who will battle for the crown. The ten drivers for the March 9 race are Anita Ouellette, Debi O’Brien-Moran, Jesse Turenne, Julie Walker, Kayla Chappell, Maggie Jones, Marie Claude Auger, Marielle Enberg, Natasha Day, and Samara Johnson.
Last year’s edition of the all-female racing event saw Ms. Day being crowned champion among her female competitors. She claimed the race with the help of the pacing mare Mach My Kiss. Overall, 2022 was a massive year in terms of the driver’s career development as she finished the season with a career-high of 74 wins and an impressive total of CA$477,489 in winnings.
For this year’s running of the Women’s Day race at Woodbine Mohawk Park, the track will have Monique Vág as the simulcast anchor. Meanwhile, the organization will invite racing host/analyst, Elissa Blowe as a special guest. The track’s Trackside Bar and Patio will be also available for reservations and will have drinks specials. Booking can be made on the official website.
According to the horse racing operator, the post time for the special International Women’s Day celebration will be on Thursday, March 9 is 7 p.m. Meanwhile, those interested in attending the card can find more information about the exciting race on the harness track’s official social media channels and website. The group is inviting everyone to celebrate the occasion.
