Another week and another set of lottery winners have been unveiled by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation. A group of twelve electricians and coworkers from the Toronto area have now cashed out a CA$1,000,000 prize from an Encore draw dating back to December 17, 2022. The group will now split the hefty windfall evenly between its members.
Encore is a bonus lottery game across Canada and it provides an extra 22 ways to win for only CA$1. Players can enhance from one to ten Encore plays to their preferred host game for a chance to win prizes ranging from CA$2 to CA$1 million. It can be added to Daily Keno, Pick-2, Pick-3, Pick-4, or with Lotto Max, Lotto 6/49, Ontario 49, and Lottario.
Meet the 12 Winners
This week, the group of twelve electricians from the Toronto area arrived at an OLG prize centre to claim the winning of CA$1,000,000 from the Encore December 17, 2022 draw. The group also won an additional CA$20 on their Lotto 6/49 numbers. If the CA$1,000,020 is split evenly between them, each of them will pocket a hefty CA$83,335.
The twelve winners are from Toronto and the nearby area, such as Whitby, Oshawa, Richmond Hill, Woodbridge, Everett, Brampton, and Mississauga. The winning was discovered by Tomasz Palanowski who checked the ticket via the OLG app and called the others to tell them the news. Michael Gavros said he almost did not pick up the phone as he thought it would be a work-related call.
Some of the prize winners plan on using their part of the windfall on savings, and investments, some want to pay off bills and make some home renovations, while others contemplate travelling around the world. The winning ticket was purchased at a Petro Canada on Burnhamthorpe Road in Etobicoke, which was just in time for the Lotto 6/49 draw on December 17, 2022.
Already Some Big Winners in 2023
It has been only two full months after the start of the new year, but Canadian ticket holders have already cashed out on some amazing prizes. February saw the announcement of the major CA$48 million jackpot winner from Sault St. Marie, Ontario. This was the first-ever purchase of a lottery ticket for the 18-year-old Juliette Lamour who now thinks of a way of spending the major Lotto 6/49 prize.
After advice from her grandfather, the student bought a ticket for the January 7, 2023 draw which ultimately brought her a life-changing windfall. A portion of the prize money will be put into investments for an even brighter future. Meanwhile, the teenager is still dreaming of becoming a doctor and returning to practice in Northern Ontario, and she will not have to worry about grants or loans.
Last month, Loto-Québec has also revealed the identity of another major winner. This time Jean-Marc Poirier from Lanaudière, Quebec, who wan a solid CA$36 million jackpot via the new version of Lotto 6/49. Mr. Poirier’s winning is one for the history books as his windfall was the first one of the new Gold Ball Jackpot in the country.
