Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation reveals the winner of a recently scored Lotto 6/49 jackpot from Sault St. Marie and it is one for the history books. The name of the lucky prize winner is Juliette Lamour who just cashed out her jackpot cheque worth the amazing CA$48 million. The 18-year-old is now the youngest person in Canadian history to win a prize of this size.
Lotto 6/49 is a widely offered and popular draw-based game across Canada drawn twice per week. Since September 2022, the offering boasts a new format, with a Classic Draw which comes with a fixed CA$5 million jackpot for every round. The other is the new Gold Ball Draw which comes with a guaranteed CA$1 million or a growing jackpot that can exceed CA$60 million.
Meet the Winner
Last week, Ms. Lamour was presented her cheque worth $48 million from the OLG for being the sole winner of the jackpot in the Gold Ball draw from January 7, 2023 draw. Another astonishing fact from her life-changing win is that this was her first ever bought lottery ticket, as she has just turned 18 and was advised by her grandfather to get a ticket just for the fun of it.
Her winning Lotto 6/49 ticket was purchased at Circle K on McNabb Street in Sault Ste. Marie, and went for the Quick Pick option. After that, Ms. Lamour says that she completely forgot about the ticket and her the news that someone from the region has been drawn as the winner of the CA$48 million jackpot. A colleague helped her scan her ticket and discovered the winning.
The winner says she is still trying to realize the size of the lottery windfall, however, she is lucky as her father is a financial planner. A major portion of the money will be put into investments for an even brighter future. Meanwhile, the teenager is still dreaming of becoming a doctor and returning to practice in Northern Ontario, and she will not have to worry about grants or loans.
Last but not least, Ms. Lamour said that she will remain focused on finishing her studies for this school year and then plans for her summer vacation. She intends on picking a continent for her and her family to go and explore. She also wishes to experience different countries, study their history and culture, try their cuisine, and listen to their language.
More Lotto 6/49 Winners
Only a few months after the introduction of the new version of Lotto 6/49, Canadians have already cashed out on some hefty windfalls from the game. The first Gold Ball jackpot in the country was claimed by a Quebec ticket holder, who was drawn as the winner in the October 29, 2022 draw. But the identity of the winner is still unknown.
Shortly after that, the OLG in Ontario reported that two ticket holders from the province have won big in the recently updated game. There were two winning tickets for the December 28 draw, and both took home CA$2.5 million. The first winner was from Mississauga and the other was from Toronto. An Encore win worth CA$100,000 was also registered in that round.
