Another major lottery win has been recorded in Ontario, Canada, informed the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation. In a press release, the Crown agency reported that last Saturday’s drawing of Lotto 6/49 has found a winner of the Gold Ball Draw jackpot in Sault Ste. Marie. The winner will take home an amazing CA$48 million windfall.
Lotto 6/49 is a nationwide draw-based game in Canada, which since September 2022 boasts a new format and now offers two large jackpots. The first one is a guaranteed CA$5 million while the other one is named the Gold Ball, which also offers a guaranteed cash prize, but it starts at a hefty CA$10 million and reaches CA$60 million. Tickets cost CA$3.
Looking for the Sault Ste. Marie Winner
Shortly after the Saturday, January 7 2023 draw, the OLG issued a statement that the rounds jackpot worth CA$48 million has been won in the province. The winner resides somewhere in Sault Ste. Marie and has up to 52 weeks from the draw’s date to contact the Crown agency and book an appointment at an OLG prize centre to claim their major prize money.
Due to safety concerns, the Crown corporation cannot reveal the exact location of the windfall, and the identity of the lucky winner will be confirmed after they claim it. The OLG advises everyone from the region to double-check their tickets for the game. Tickets can be checked via the Crown corporation’s Lotto App or at provincial retailers.
It also reported that a CA$1 million Encore prize was won by an online user of OLG.ca in the Saturday draw. Since the launch of the new version of Lotto 6/49 in September 2022, the province of Ontario recorded 25 new millionaires in the game. These new prizewinners have won either a guaranteed CA$1 million via Gold Ball or the CA$5 million Classic jackpot.
Just before the year’s end, the OLG also informed of two major winners from the Lotto 6/49 game who each won CA$2.5 million. Their two tickets were drawn as winning ones in the December 28 2022 round. According to the Crown agency, the first winner resides in Mississauga and the other one is in Toronto.
Players can now purchase tickets for the next draw of the popular Lotto 6/49 draw, which is scheduled for Wednesday, January 11, 2023. As the Gold Ball jackpot was recently won, the prize will reset to its default of CA$10 million. Meanwhile, the Classic Draw will still offer a fixed CA$5 million grand prize. Tickets are available at OLG.ca or at retailers across Ontario.
First Gold Ball Winner
After Lotto 6/49 introduced its new and improved format, it did not take long for a ticket holder to win a major prize in it. According to the provincial lotteries, the first significant Gold Ball jackpot was won in the October 29 draw of the game. The winner resides in Quebec and has won the amazing CA$36 million to their name. Their identity is yet unknown.
