Most recently, the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame has invited the equine racing industry to participate in the nomination of people for its Class of 2022. As usual, the nominations’ objective is to recognize individuals who have made major contributions to both harness and Thoroughbred racing in the industry. The deadline for submissions is set to August 19, 2022.
This year, the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame made some adjustments to the schedule as it moved the awards from April to August 2022. This decision was made in order to be able to finally induct its CHRHF Classes of 2020 and 2021. The two classes were affected by the emergence of the unprecedented situation which has obstructed the process.
Changes for the Next Classes
The Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame announced that all nominations must be submitted before the deadline which is scheduled for August 19, 2022, at 5:00 p.m. est. Also, all submissions must meet the eligibility requirements set by the organization, which will be reviewed by the Nomination Committee of each of the breeds and categories.
It is also worth mentioning, that the Board of Directors of the organization has decided to decrease the number of Inductees to four per breed that will be included in the 2022 and 2023 classes. Previously the organization recognized five in Standardbred and five in Thoroughbred. And both the 2022 and 2023 classes will be officially inducted next August, said the organization.
For this year’s edition of the class, a total of four categories for each breed are set to be recognized by the organization, as well as three finalists in each of the categories. The finalists should be announced on September 20, 2022. The organization will announce its CHRHF Class of 2022 on October 5, 2022, which will feature four Standardbred and four Thoroughbred Inductees.
Last but not least, the association has informed that all nominations should be sent out by completing the online form, which can be found on the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame’s official website. A PDF version of the form can be downloaded from the web portal and filed to the mailing address which is listed on the form itself.
Exciting Season Ahead
Canada’s horse racing fans have plenty of exciting races to look forward to in the summer season for both Standardbreds and Thoroughbreds. Earlier this year, Woodbine Entertainment announced its Standardbred schedule which is slated to offer more than CA$21 million in stakes events. Including the US$6.7 million Breeders Crown, the Pepsi North America Cup, and the Mohawk Million.
The organization also offers world-class Thoroughbred races as this year’s season is set to include plenty of riveting races. This contains the prestigious CA$1 million The Queen’s Plate event, scheduled for August 21, 2022, at its Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto. The Thoroughbred season started on April 15, 2022, and concludes on December 11, 2022.
