On Tuesday, August 9, 2022, Ontario’s horse racing leader, Woodbine Entertainment announced that it will be hosting another all-female driver’s race. The special event will take place on Monday, August 15, 2022, at its Woodbine Mohawk Park in Campbellville. The organization said that it will draw post positions for the exciting race on Thursday and reveal them to the public.
Woodbine Entertainment, previously known as the Ontario Jockey Club, operates Woodbine Racetrack and Woodbine Mohawk Part a casino and off-track betting stations in the Greater Toronto Area of Ontario. The operator has a major role in the province’s horse racing industry as it hosts hundreds of world-class Thoroughbred and Standardbred races every year.
Coming in on Monday
Earlier this week, Woodbine Mohawk Park announced that it will host a female driver race next week on August 15, 2022, at its premises. The company shared that post positions for the race will be drawn and revealed on Thursday, August 11, 2022. According to the track, the women’s driving race will come with a boosted prize pool for contestants.
There is a list of all the drivers that will participate in the all-female race on Monday for fans of the sport and bettors: Jesse Turenne, Samara Johnson, Britt Kennedy, Debi O’Brien-Moran, Maggie Jones, Natasha Day, Julie Walker, Marie-Claude Auger, Anita Ouellette, Kayla Chappell. While Marielle Enberg and Pam Forgie will also be eligible to join, said the horse racing leader.
The special event will kick off at 7 p.m. on Monday’s card at Woodbine Mohawk Park. This event is the second of this kind for the season, and the corporation has hosted an all-female driver’s competition. The first one was on March 7, 2022, and it was held just in time for International Women’s Day. It was claimed by the defending Ontario Women’s Driving Championship winner Natasha Day.
And in order to celebrate the occasion, the organization invited an all-female crew for its simulcast and race-calling coverage for the race. The event was third on the March 7 card and it featured a main prize of CA$18,000. In addition to that, the popular host and racing analyst Dawn Lupul made a special appearance as a track announcer for the whole card.
Exploring a Soccer Project
Earlier this year, Woodbine Entertainment announced some more plans to provide economic benefit to the region. In March the company revealed its plans to construct a soccer stadium and training facility on a portion of its land. The new facility will accommodate many Canadian Premier League clubs, the Canadian women’s team, and a training facility for the 2026 World Cup.
The organization’s plan is still at its early stages, but it is expected that the soccer facilities will be completed sometime in 2023. The brand-new locations would be close to the company’s Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto, while the soccer stadium would be over 38,000 square feet in size and meet all required FIFA standards.
