Last week, the New York State Gaming Commission issued another weekly mobile sports betting handle report. And to no one’s surprise, FanDuel is still comfortably ahead of the rest of the locally licensed operators. For the week that ended on June 26, 2022, the sportsbook has captured almost half of the weekly handle with a total of US$101 million in handled wagers.
The state’s mobile sports betting market launched in January this year, and despite its infant age it has already transformed into one of the largest ones in the U.S. Currently, the state has licensed nine operators to offer their products in the jurisdiction. They are FanDuel, DraftKings, Caesars Sportsbook, BetRivers, PointsBet, BetMGM, WynnBET, Resorts WorldBET, and Bally Bet.
Still Dominating the Market
According to the most recent report from the New York State Gaming Commission weekly handle for the week that concluded on June 26, 2022, amassed US$218,904,606. Out of those US$218 million, FanDuel has managed to accept almost half of it with US$101,537,195 in handled bets. This amount is almost double the handle of the second-placed DraftKings with US$52 million.
FanDuel has been in the lead in terms of handle for the last 22 weeks. The last time that it did not head the chart was the week of January 23, 2022, when Caesars Sportsbook collected US$229.7 million in handle. Since the start of the market, FanDuel has generated more than US$3 billion in total wagers, which translated into more than US$270 million in gross gaming revenue.
For the week of June 26, 2022, the eight online sportsbooks recorded a total handle of US$218 million. FanDuel and DraftKings accumulated the two largest bags, while Caesars Sportsbook got to third place with US$33,064,983 in handle, and US2,249,101 in gross gaming revenue. BetMGM was fourth with US$19,558,938 in handle and US$1,284,962 in GGR.
Fifth place went to BetRivers and its US$5,285,712 in handled wagers for the said week, out of which US$323,274 has been captured by the app as gross gaming revenue. Then PointsBet was sixth in handle with US$3,415,137 and US$414,115 in GGR. The last two spots were occupied by WynnBET and Resorts WorldBET with US$1,589,467 and $1,526,765 in handles respectively.
Meanwhile, New York is still waiting for the launch of the last ninth operator – Bally Bet. Back in January, the operator refused to launch in the state, as it was not willing to outbid its peers in throwing cash for welcome bonuses. In May, the sportsbook shared that it eyes a Q2 2022 launch. However, this deadline was missed, but the company says that it will happen soon.
Working on New Problem Gambling Council
And due to the increase in gambling access, New York legislators along with Sen. Joseph Addabbo are considering the launch of the Problem Gambling Advisory Council. If the legislation is passed, then the council would consist of 13 members and it will develop and recommend strategies to ensure the availability of problem gambling programs and resources in the state.
