This week, Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment announced that it will be launching in Ontario’s new iGaming and sports wagering market. The company will make its debut in the market via an agreement with leading sports betting provider Kambi Group. And the launch will be done via its Fallsview Casino Resort brand, which is located in Niagara Falls, Ontario.
The province’s open market for private online gaming and mobile sports betting operators has kicked off on April 4, 2022. As of last Friday, over 23 operators and 21 gaming sites have gone live in the jurisdiction, and Kambi Group is one of them. The company has already provided its sports betting products to other provincially licensed brands.
Coming Soon
Fallsview Casino Resort is the largest gaming property in Canada, and it is among the most popular gaming brands in the country. That is why its operator, MGE, is hopeful that the casino’s name and popularity will ensure a successful launch of the mobile sportsbook in the province. The agreement is also an important step for Kambi Group, which already operates in 17 US states and now in Ontario.
Kristian Nylén, Kambi’s Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder has stated that the Canadian gaming market and Ontario, in particular, is one of immense potential for the company. He shared that he is pleased to have an agreement in place with MGE and its Niagara Falls property, and their official debut as a regulated online sportsbook in the jurisdiction.
In addition to that, Mr. Nylén is also looking forward to the results of the partnership between their company’s world-class mobile sportsbook and the prominent name of Fallsview Casino Resort. He promises that this collaboration would provide Ontarians with all the excitement of single-event and in-game betting, along with the unparalleled bet combinability of the sportsbook.
Rich Roberts, President of Mohegan Digital for MGE, commented that this is an exciting time for the online betting industry as sports wagering continues to boom. He says that the company is thrilled to be teaming up with Kambi Group, and it is proud to present its PlayFallsview online sportsbook. In his words, the app will be the first mobile gaming product outside of the US for the company.
Monitored by the AGCO
The new and regulated market is overseen by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, and the regulator has recently demonstrated that it is keeping a close eye on it. This week, the AGCO announced that it has fined both BetMGM and PointsBet Canada for violating Standards for Internet Gaming. BetMGM has been assigned a CA$48,000 fine, while PointsBet Canada got a CA$35,000 one.
In addition to that, last week, the regulator updated the Registrar’s Standards for Gaming. The changes were done to enhance player protections across land-based properties and charitable gaming centres. According to the AGCO, three sections of the rules have been now updated. One of them was the prohibition of public advertising of inducements, bonuses, and credits for sports and event wagering products.
