Most current news from Canada’s gaming industry saw international events and media company SBC agree to a deal to purchase the Canadian Gaming Summit. The CGS is the country’s annual conference and trade show for land-based and iGaming representatives of the current joint owners of the Canadian Gaming Association and MediaEdge Communications.
SBC informed that the acquisition will be officially completed after this year’s running of the conference. And this year’s edition is set to be taking place between June 7 and June 9, 2022, at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in downtown Toronto. In addition to the CGS, the Canadian Gaming Business news website, e-newsletter, and print magazine are also included in the deal.
The Arrangement
Through this agreement, SBC will now work with MediaEdge and the Canadian Gaming Association to secure even more content and commercial value to this year’s edition of the Summit. And to ensure this, the three organizations will host a Special Gaming Industry Reception on April 4, 2022, to celebrate the launch of Ontario’s iGaming and sports betting market for private operators.
Once the acquisition is complete, the association will still be involved as an official and strategic partner of the conference and will work with SBC to make sure that the summit supports the further development of the Canadian gaming industry. Anyone who would like to participate in this year’s conference or Special Gaming Industry Reception will have to contact MediaEdge or reach out to their SBC account manager.
Rasmus Sojmark, Founder & CEO of SBC, stated that the deal is a wonderful achievement for the company, which also suits its growing portfolio of first-rate events and media properties in the U.S. and Latin America. He added that the company is delighted to welcome CGS to its family, as after the introduction of single-event wagering, the Canadian gaming market is set to expand.
Canadian Gaming Association President & CEO Paul Burns has also shared a few words on the deal. According to him, the association membership has grown substantially in the last year, and the team is excited to open new opportunities and welcome new members on board. He said that the association already has a great relationship with SBC and is now looking forward to working with them.
CGA and IBIA Join Forces
At the end of this January, the Canadian Gaming Association revealed that it will be upping its efforts against corrupt activities in the local gaming industry. That is why the association has opted to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with International Betting Integrity Association or IBIA. Through this, the association will establish a framework with IBIA to protect the integrity of the Canadian gambling industry.
The plan is for the two organizations to promote the commercial and related integrity interests of their operator members, as well as create a viable regulated betting market, with high consumer channeling rates, and consumers, sports, and operator integrity protections. CEO of IBIA, Khalid Ali, commented that the protection of Ontario’s gaming market and the Canadian as a whole is the number one priority for the organization.
