The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation reminds all lottery players from the province, that last month’s Lotto 6/49 prize is still not obtained. The prize worth the staggering CA$36.4 million was drawn last month, but its winner from Barrie, OLG representative explains that the winner could have forgotten about the ticket or is looking for financial help before cashing out.
Once more the OLG reminds that for lottery prize winning between CA$1,000 and CA$49,999,90 players should submit their claims online or mail them, in order to cash out. And when it comes to obtaining a prize worth more than CA$50,000, winners are urged to contact the agency by calling 1-800-387-0098 to discuss and book available prize claim options.
Taking Their Time
Tony Bitonti, who is a representative of the OLG said this week, that the CA$36.4 million jackpot from January 2022, is still not paid out. The spokesperson explained that the Barrie winner is yet to contact the agency to claim their hefty windfall. In his words, this could be due to the winner taking their time to discuss it with a financial advisor first.
He continued by saying that there are a few winners who forgot to check their tickets and they do not know that the tickets have been drawn as winning ones. After being drawn as a winner, players have up to 52 weeks to claim their prize, while instant tickets have a longer expiration date. Mr. Bitonti advised everyone to check their tickets as soon as possible via the OLG app or at local retailers.
Prior to that, the OLG informed that this was the fourth time in two years that a Barrie local has won a multi-million-dollar prize from the lottery. Mr. Bitonti said that the days of people walking unannounced with winning tickets are long gone, and winners need to book an appointment with the OLG to claim their prize at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto.
Meanwhile, the last Lotto 6/49 draw has also remained without a winner, as no ticket won the CA$8.8 million from Saturday. Winning numbers for the draw were 01, 25, 26, 37, 40, 43 and 3 as a bonus number. The draw’s Guaranteed CA$1 million prize has been won by a Quebec ticket holder, and their ticket number is 72479786-01.
Last month, the OLG has also confirmed that an Ontario local has won the mind-blowing CA$70 million Lotto Max jackpot. The name of the lucky ticket holder is Manoharan Ponnuthurai, and his numbers were the winning one for the December 17 draw of the game. Upon retrieving his prize, the 54-year-old shared that despite the major win, he does not plan on retiring early.
More Unclaimed Prizes
At the start of February, Loto-Québec reminded lottery players that there are still some prizes from last year which are still unclaimed. The list includes a CA$2 million Quebec 49 prize from the Quebec City region in an August draw. As well as a CA$1 million prize Lotto Max prize won in Outaouais from June 22, 2021. And two others are an Extra from November 5 draw, and Lotto 6/49 won by a resident Montérégie on November 24 2021 draw.
