Canadians are known for their passion for games of chance and exploring new offerings whenever they have the opportunity to do so. This often means crossing the border and traveling all the way to Nevada for riveting gambling offerings. Las Vegas alone welcomed nearly 1.6 million individuals hailing from Canada in 2018. Toronto and Vancouver residents were among the most frequent travelers there.
Canada is a country with a developing gambling scene that has a thing missing to it. When all is said and done, its offerings fail to be competitive enough to its southern rival, especially when it comes to single-event sports wagering and online gaming. Projections are that the legalization of those offerings could prevent individuals from traveling to the US for gambling.
Gaming Expansion Attracts Players
Officials have expressed their support in the past and action has been taken for bills to be introduced. Back in 2015, Brian Masse, running for the NDP in Windsor West, launched a campaign in support of sports wagering. As it later on happened, the aforementioned bill could not make it through the Senate and had to be scrapped. Back then, Canada used to be better positioned for a gaming expansion when compared to the US.
Sports wagering was still prohibited by the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act introduced in 1992, also known as the Bradley Act. This meant that placing bets on single events was considered illegal and the exception was only for a couple of states. Canadian lawmakers have expressed their opinion in the past months that back then the country had the upper hand and the potential to advance as time progressed.
Windsor West Liberal candidate Sandra Pupatello made her support clear in the fall of 2019, joined by the Canadian Gaming Association. They consider legalized single-event sports wagering across Canada a step in the positive direction which could offer steady employment to upwards of 10 individuals in the region solely.
Las Vegas Brings Gaming, Family-Friendly Offerings
Now states to the likes of Michigan, New York, Ohio, and New Jersey attract Canadians with their online gaming, sports betting, and more. Nevada appears to be another hot destination for individuals of the Great White North, as the numbers have shown. People hailing from Toronto appear to be drawn to Las Vegas more than players of British Columbia, for example.
Nevertheless, individuals of Vancouver rank third when it comes to traveling to Las Vegas, right after people of Mexico City. The year 2018 witnessed about 250,000 individuals fly from Pearson International Airport in Toronto to Las Vegas. Gambling offerings in the gaming hotspot of the West Coast abound, making it easy for individuals to enjoy them and experience some of them for the very first time.
Family-friendly offerings are also widely spread, balancing out the local field, ranging from celebrity chef restaurants and celebrities hosting regular shows at some of the premium event centers to grand concerts happening on a daily basis. Jason Gastwirth, President of Entertainment at Caesars Entertainment Corporation, pointed out that Canadian superstars have been drawing people of the north for years now, with major celebrities such as Celine Dion and Shania Twain being only some of them.
