Casino expansion is essential for the prosperity of a given location and for remaining competitive in an ever-changing field. Great Blue Heron Casino in Port Perry is preparing for its brand new hotel building to welcome its first guests. Casino management made it clear that this would happen in July 2020, once all construction work has come to an end and the hotel tower is able to offer a premium experience.
Gaming offerings are able to attract a crowd, but it is the accommodation that truly keeps people around for longer. Great Canadian Gaming wanted to diversify its offerings at Port Perry and give people a chance to experience premium accommodation. When it comes to revenue, having both gaming and more family-friendly offerings at a casino complex is essential. This is why the leading casino operator announced its expansion plans at the beginning of 2018.
Casino Expansion in Progress
The new hotel building is projected to feature four floors with a wide range of rooms available for booking. It will have a total of 116 rooms ranging from regular ones to suites for a premium feel. Glenn Mulhall, Great Blue Heron Casino Food and Beverage Manager, said that construction and furnishing go according to the initially established schedule.
This would result in a new hotel building mid-2020 with a grand ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by the casino operator. Projections are that Peterborough residents would make their way here and extend their stay at Port Perry attracted by the diverse offerings in the area. Its relative proximity – about 70 kilometers, is expected to make this a well-rounded experience even for the individuals that have no intention to gamble.
The new hotel expansion would bring room service available, as well as a complimentary breakfast bar with a wide array of delicious offerings. Locals have also been expecting the luxurious offering to come to life. It could be recalled that the first months of 2018 saw the announcement that a casino complex expansion is in the works.
Great Canadian Gaming Continues Ontario Modernization
Back in January 2018, Great Canadian Gaming Corporation and Brookfield Business Partners unveiled their ambitious casino expansion plan for Great Blue Heron Casino. The move came shortly after Great Canadian Gaming Corporation and Brookfield Business Partners have successfully completed the acquisition of the gaming assets in the Greater Toronto Area Gaming Bundle.
It included locations to the likes of OLG Slots at Woodbine Racetrack, OLG Slots at Ajax Downs and Great Blue Heron Casino. The gaming bundle cost some CA$170 million, but the two companies revealed that they want to invest upwards of CA$700 million in the renovation and expansion of said locations. Gaming modernization across Ontario was the ultimate goal of Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation.
In addition to the hotel building, the draft proposal included a 500-seat entertainment center for live musical acts. The casino venue was also part of the expansion project, adding some 20,000 square feet to it. Players will be able to enjoy a wider range of table games, as well as premium slot machines.
