Turf Trinity Brings US$1-Million Jockey Club Derby
With the beginning of this year, came the news of the new racing series and everything they represented for the local horse people community. They mimic the renowned Canadian Triple Crown but this New York racing experience feature two parallel lines of racing events – Turf Trinity and Turf Tiara.
This September would once again return racing action to Belmont Park and introduce two live racing events. The US$1-Million Jockey Club Derby is about to have its first edition this week and expectations are quite high both because it is the last one of the Turf Trinity Series, and because it features a hefty prize for the top performer.
Up until now, both previous races of this series happening at the beginning of July and August have featured the same US$1-million prize. September 7 is scheduled to bring the live race welcoming nine three-year-old colts ready to race for the first place. Their race is about to take place at the 1 1/2 mile grass, giving them the chance to showcase their speed and the previous two champions of the Turf Trinity would also participate.
US$750,000 Jockey Club Oaks Transforms Saturday
Henley’s Joy won the Belmont Derby at the beginning of July, whereas A Thread of Blue managed to outrun all rivals in the Saratoga Derby in August. At this point, the two of them are favorites for the first place this Saturday. Digital Age is also a potential winner according to many experts, especially due to his performance at the Kentucky Derby.
Turf Tiara is about to see its last of three races this Saturday too. The US$750,000 Jockey Club Oaks would welcome back many of the renowned names, but not the most praised this summer. Concrete Rosa managed to win both the US$750,000 Belmont Oaks (G1) and the US$750,000 Saratoga Oaks in July and August, but the three-year-old filly would not return for the last race.
Last month the horse had hairline fracture diagnosed – a small crack within a bone that would prevent her from racing. The busy weekend is also going to see the fifth running of the US$100,000 Christiecat on September 6, paving the way for everything about to come.
