One of Canada’s largest poker rooms, the Playground Poker Club, will be welcoming players from all over the country at the end of the month for its June Power Weekend. The festival offers $150,000 in guaranteed prize pools over ten different events which will be held from June 27 through July 2.
There are not many live poker festivals in Canada but this summer, the Playground Poker Club has prepared great surprises for all poker pros and amateurs. Conveniently located just minutes away from Downtown Montreal in the Mohawk territory of Kahnawake, it has welcomed some of the largest and most prestigious poker events in North America. The festival scheduled for the end of the month is expected to attract many grinders, including some of the nation’s most accomplished professional players.
With classic No-limit Hold’em and Pot-limit Omaha games, Megastack tournaments and events with bounties, the June Poker Weekend will have something for everyone. It kicks off at noon on Wednesday, June 27, with the $110 NLH 8-Max Freeze event where the guaranteed prize pool is $5,000. This is just the first of a total of ten events with entry fees from $80 to $330, depending on their announced guarantees. One of the most exciting tourneys, however, will be the NLH Tag Team event where 2-player teams will fight for a share of the $30,000 guaranteed prize pool. It starts Sunday, July 1, with a buy-in of $300+$30 per team. Each team member begins with 25,000 tournament chips and plays individually until Level 7 when players merge their stacks.
But the highlight of the festival is the second event which kicks off June 27 with the first of three starting flights. This is the Strangers in the Night NLH Re-entry tournament which offers the largest guarantee of $50,000. In order to take part in it, players will need to pay the $150+$25 buy-in. They can re-enter unlimited times during the late registration period of every starting flight, playing with initial stacks of 25,000. A total of 14 30-minute levels will be played during Day 1, as well as another 10 levels of 40 minutes during Day, while on Day 3, entrants will play until there is a winner.
WSOP Returns to Playground Poker Club
The summer schedule at Montreal’s Playground Poker Club continues with an even more exciting festival that would certainly attract poker enthusiasts from abroad, too. After an absence of two years, the World Series of Poker Circuit returns to Canada and to the popular poker room. Starting August 23, the 2018 WSOP-C Playground will run for almost two weeks through September 3.
The full schedule is yet to be released, but organizers have already revealed that the festival will have seven WSOP-C Playground Ring events, including a Pot-limit Omaha event, a $250 Colossus tournament, and a $500 buy-in Monster Stack event. However, most players would be probably coming in Kahnawake for the $2 million GTD Main Event. It will be a $1,100 No-limit Hold’em tournament with four starting flights, the first of which begins August 28. Instead of buying in directly to the tournament, players can qualify online at partypoker for only $110. Satellites run every Thursday and Sunday during June and July and offer 3 seats to WSOP-C Playground Main Event.
